— The Three Pillars

If there's one thing I want you to take with you from everything I've found, it's this. And I want to say it gently, because I know how it can sound at first, like one of those phrases you've already heard a hundred times and it just slides right off.
But here it is anyway, because it's the truest thing I know. Your whole reality comes from you.
Honestly, do we ever really stop to think about that? We often think we're just one of more than seven billion people on this planet, this tiny thread in some massive web, like we have no real say in anything. But what we overlook is that we entirely create this reality. Sure, we can't change life for others, but we can shape our own lives completely.
It's both terrifying and empowering when you realize it. That you hold your reality, your life, entirely in your hands. Because if life springs from you, you're responsible for it. But there's another side to that coin, and it's the part I want you to feel — if you create everything, then you also have the power to decide. No one else does. You decide your thoughts, your feelings, your actions. That's the unique responsibility you carry for your body, mind, and soul.
No one lives a life like another. We all live in our own bubble of mind, body, and soul. We think differently, feel differently, act differently. Everything springs from your mind — everything you see, feel, taste, smell arises from your perception and thoughts. Your consciousness is the absolute reality. And you have it in your hands to live life as you wish.

Let me give you a small example, the kind that probably looks familiar.
You're driving to pick up your partner from work, and at an intersection, an older woman cuts you off. Nothing actually happens. She doesn't even notice and just drives on. But something inside you flips. You honk, you get upset, you speed up out of frustration, you run a red light, and a camera catches you. You arrive at your partner's workplace already fuming, still chewing on what happened. She gets in, eager to share her day, but you're somewhere else entirely. She tries to talk to you and you stay stuck in your frustration, so eventually she stops trying. You speed home, honking at slower drivers, and then it starts raining, ruining the plans to grill with friends. That's the last straw. You lash out, blaming the woman from earlier, blaming your partner for needing the ride, blaming the day itself. At home, she leaves the room without a word, you sleep in separate beds, and the next morning she's gone before you wake.
Now look at that whole evening. The only thing that actually happened, the only thing that wasn't a choice you made, was that one woman accidentally cutting you off. Everything after that was you. Every reaction, every escalation, every sharp word. All decisions made in moments so fast you didn't even notice you were making them.
You could have let it go. You could have shown some understanding for the woman who clearly didn't even realize what she'd done. You could have arrived calm, listened to your partner, enjoyed a relaxed evening. The whole night could have gone a completely different way. And the only difference would have been you.

This is where the journey to more contentment and happiness begins. With consciousness. Consciousness that you are the creator of your life, your thoughts, your feelings, your actions. You decide how you feel, how you react, how you act. You decide what you think and whether you're satisfied and happy or not.
You're not angry because someone tells you to be. You choose to be angry. And choosing anger doesn't lead to contentment or happiness. Choosing not to be angry doesn't mean you don't care or that there's no reason to be upset. It means your inner contentment matters more to you than holding on to that anger. It's all your decision.

And here's the wonderful part. The part that turned everything around for me.
If you decide everything and hold your life in your hands, then you can also influence everything. If you're dissatisfied or unhappy, you have the power to change it and make a new decision. Choose deep inner contentment. Choose true happiness. Be mindful and conscious.
This knowledge — that reality springs solely from you — has forever changed my whole attitude toward life.

"We finally have to understand that we are the creators of our own lives. Nobody else than ourselves is able to choose how we feel, what we think and how we act. It's ourselves that chooses what happens in life."
